Melbourne United’s commitment to ensuring basketball is a safe and inclusive place for all is a major part of the club’s purpose - To use the power of basketball to inspire, entertain and enrich people's lives.

We hope to achieve this through our work both on the court in the way that our group plays, as well as off the court through The United Foundation, which stands on the pillars of Education, Health & Wellbeing, Inclusion and Participation & Pathways.

These pillars were created on the back of our core values; Selfless, Excellence and Inclusive.

Across history, Melbourne United has proudly championed the Indigenous community, whether it be through half-time games, or bringing in junior players to practices.

Much of this comes through our partnership with Rick Baldwin and the Koorie Basketball Academy, who we work closely with through our Indigenous coaching academy and during the NBL Indigenous Round.

Always looking to best represent the diverse and multicultural city in which we play, Melbourne United have proudly highlighted different cultures within and surrounding the team and our community. 

Whether it be through our partnerships with Helping Hoops and the Centre of Multicultural Sport, or events like The Multicultural Game, we have always opted to create an environment that is welcoming to people from all backgrounds and cultures.

We have seen the power basketball can have on helping all people feel welcome within a community, and that is no different when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community.

Melbourne United have made the commitment to continue learning more about the space, which has been a huge success through our partnership with Pride in Sport and the NBL Pride Round.

At Melbourne United, we want to facilitate unforgettable moments for everyone surrounding our club, regardless of their ability.

We've been lucky enough to host a number of wheelchair games during halftime of our home games, and look forward to doing more within this space moving forward to help champion the passion of all hoopers.
